Fall 2013 Game 10 versus Monroe Twp. Lady Braves (2)

This was the girl’s last game of the season and they didn’t disappoint. The first meeting between the BlueStorm and The Lady Braves ended in a 2-1 loss in the last minutes of the game. This game was fairly similar in the sense that it wasn’t a run away for either team.

The Lady Braves came out aggressive and were playing a very physical game. The BlueStorm came out and was equally aggressive. This match up proved to be a real battle the first half with zero shots on goal for either team. The Lady Braves had a few break ways that were denied at the last minute or miss kicked far off course from the goal.

The second half the Blue Storm came out on fire. They were beating the Lady Braves to every ball, making great series of passes and took their shots on goal count from 0 to 12. This includes the 3 direct kicks for fouls called just outside the Lady Brave’s 18.  It was a little crazy how much physical play was allowed most of the game until the last half when the ref pulled a full 180,  and started calling even the most minor of infractions. At one point a hand ball was called for a ball that bounced up from the ground and struck Casey on her hand which was tucked in close to her body. It was a horrible call to make nearing the end of such a hard fought game when there was clearly no advantage gained. That is except for the advantage the ref’s call gave The Lady Braves. Luckily the penalty kick was a toe ball way wide of the goal. And then the battle ensued.

Our girls continued to fight hard and pressured the Lady Braves goal with a number of amazing shots but none could find their way past the goalie.  The game ended as it started 0-0.

This game was a win in the coaches’ eyes, in-terms of how our girls played and how they ended their fall season. The girls have competed at a very high level in the league and should be very proud of themselves. The spring season should be a great the season to watch as the team continues to grow and gel as a cohesive unit.
