Welcome to Jacksonville Area Soccer Association Challenge Soccer Program! JASA Challenge Soccer is an endeavor to provide the greater Jacksonville area and Onslow County with a quality and affordable Challenge Soccer experience. Challenge soccer is a higher level of competition as compared to recreation soccer and requires dedication from the players and parents. Our challenge program focuses on growth and development of our players and teams. This level of play starts at U10 and carries through U14. JASA challenge coaches hold the appropriate level North Carolina Youth Soccer Association license for the age bracket they are coaching. Challenge soccer will develop the player’s technical skills, tactical knowledge and incorporate teamwork strategies.
Try-outs: Annual open try-outs are held during the first week of June and are conducted over a 2 days period. We highly recommend that players attend both days. All players are highly encouraged to attend. Players are notified of their selection by the posting of their try-out numbers on the JASA webpage and also a phone call from the coach. When a player accepts a position on a challenge team, they are expected to attend all team functions and remains on the team for one year. Lastly, supplemental try-outs may be offered if there are available positions on a team.
Cost: Challenge soccer registration is $75.00 per season. Additional cost includes: uniforms (two jerseys, two pair of socks and a pair of shorts), carrying bag, two tournament fees and travel cost.
Practice/ Regular season: Training sessions usually last 1 1/2 to 2 hours and are conducted two to three times a week. Teams play two regular scheduled ECSA seasons and additionally are required to compete in two outdoor soccer tournaments. Coaches will determine dates and locations of these tournaments and pass the information to the parents.
Playing Time: Challenge soccer is competitive and playing time is earned. During ECSA scheduled games, there is a minimum of 10 minutes of playing time a game per player. This rule does not apply to tournament play outside of the ECSA scheduling seasons. Tournament playing time is determined by the coach.
Travel: Teams are members of ECSA; therefore will travel throughout Dixon, East Duplin, Havelock, Jacksonville, New Bern, Richland, and Swansboro areas. The extra travel associated with challenge soccer is tournaments. Most tournaments are in Greensboro, Greensville, Hickory, New Bern, Raleigh, Pine Hurst, and Wilmington. Tournaments last the whole weekend. You should plan on leaving Friday night and returning home Sunday afternoon.
Competing in tournaments allows our teams to receive Regional, State and National rankings, play different teams, and create an exciting adventure with lots of excitement.
JASA believes high-level competitive soccer helps players develop discipline, commitment, builds self-esteem, and evolves a lasting relationship that exceed winning on the field. Respect and good sportsmanship, being gracious in victory and defeat, is taught and expected. Our Challenge soccer program assists players in their developing their skills and prepares them to move onto the Classic level of soccer.
