State of the Club

Hello JASA Members,
This past year has been unprecedented for all of us, due to the Covid Pandemic. I would like to thank all of you for supporting JASA during these very trying times. There have been many unforeseen issues and adaptations that we have had to navigate. Hopefully, we will all be getting back to normalcy in the very near future. During this Pandemic JASA has continued to lay the foundation for our present and future players, which we would like to share.
First and foremost, a good number of JASA teams have achieved promotions into the next level of competition. We have more Premier level and higher teams this year than we have had in recent history. The 08 Girls are competing in the National League Piedmont Conference (NLPC), which is the highest level of play that can be achieved under North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA). We have several teams that are in the Premier Division: 04 Girls, 06 Boys, 06 Girls and 07 Girls. As of this writing the 05 Boys and 08 boys are positioned well to be promoted to Premier also. In addition, I have high hopes for several of our younger teams to reach these levels. Due to the efforts of our committed players and exceptional coaching staff, JASA has the only NLPC team in the area and is unrivaled in the number of Premiere level teams compared to other local organizations.
JASA has what I consider to be the best coaching staff in the area, including coaches from Swansboro High School, Jacksonville High School, White Oak High School, New Bridge Middle School, Northwoods Park Middle School and the Commons Middle School. This season, we have added several new coaches who have college level playing experience. In addition, today we added an Academy Director to our staff who will continue the focus on player development and quality coaching. The Player Development Program (PDP) run by our Director of Coaching (DOC) on Fridays has been a tremendous success for JASA not only in developing younger players, but also in identifying future club talent. Many within our coaching staff have achieved high level coaching licensure and all are encouraged to pursue continuous coaching education. On a personal note, I must add how proud I am that, across the board, our staff is developing great young people and providing them with the tools to be successful not just on the soccer field but IN LIFE!
JASA has undertaken some very needed and required capital improvements this year. One of the newest items we are currently in the process of procuring is a VEO camera and software system. This system will allow staff, players and parents to create highlight videos to send to colleges, for recruitment purposes. Another project, an improvement you will notice at the field currently, is the revitalization of our equipment storage area and shed, which not only looks great but is functional in preventing our mowers, golf carts and other equipment from sitting in water every time it rains, and also protects them from damage during storms, which happened in the past. A project that was a long time coming but that is now completed is the brick wall behind the flag poles, which looks fantastic! A less noticeable but just as important project which required significant time and money was the repair of our sprinkler system. Though our fields are not in their best shape as compared to past years, we will be focusing a lot of our attention towards them this summer. That focus, along with the recent purchase of portable lights for winter training combined with a plan to purchase more portable lights, some new goals and benches will return our fields to their premier status. And the news you all have been waiting and hoping for: we do have bathroom renovation plans intended for the very near future!

JASA awarded an unprecedented number of scholarships to support our members during these trying COVID times. I would like to thank our fundraising chair, Marty Keeley, and the sponsors that have made that possible. JASA would like to ensure that every child has the opportunity to play and fall in love with the greatest game in the world, regardless of financial limitations.
Once again, we offer our sincere thanks for the support and willingness to work with us through this difficult year. We all have endured a great many challenges; however, despite the challenges, JASA has grown during this pandemic and we anticipate even more growth in the coming years. Together, with your continued support, I believe JASA can make some huge strides forward over the next few years. I do sincerely thank each and every one of you. If there is anything I, or the board, can do to help you, please feel free to contact us anytime.
